The identification of John as the sone of John Bennett and Elizabeth Berry is tentative. He witnesed a power of attorney granted by Phyliss Earle ( his presumed sister) to George Eskeridge to renounce her right of dower unto Joseph Carr for 80 acres. (D &W 3, p. 52). Additionally, a court order dated 28 Feb. 1705/06 orders John Bennett and Matillda his wife to appear in court to answer charges against them. (WC OB 1, p. 8a. ). Matillda is identified as the relict of William Rust and Samuel Earle.
