Will of Joseph East
In the name if God amen. Joseph East being sick and weak but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this instrument of writing my last will and testament and hereby utterly disallow in the disannul all and every other will and testament by me made confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. First my will of desire is that my beloved wife Mary East may and shall peaceably and quietly _ all my estate both real and personal during her natural life and after her decease I bond my negro man Harry to my daughter Edith Peers during her natural life and after her decease give and bequeath the above named negro Harry to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten and should the decease before such heirs is twenty one years old my will is that Thomas Peers may possess this negro Harry until such heirs arrives to the age of twenty one years when he or she shall fully and peaceably possess and enjoy the negro Harry above given also I give to my daughter Edith Peers the sum of five shillings also after the decease of my beloved wife I lend to my daughter Mary Cannon one feather bed and furniture and my negro girl named Nan together with all the increase during her natural life and after her decease I give and bequeath the above named negro Nan together with all her increase to her children lawfully begotten to be equally divided and them when the youngest child come of age I also give to my daughter Mary Cannon the sum of five shillings also I give to my son James East the sum of five shillings also I give to my son Thomas East the sum of five shillings also I give to my son Josiah East the sum of five shillings the remaining part of my estate I leave to my beloved wife to dispose of as she thinks proper and I herby forbid any appraisement by order of court on my estate after my decease and I do approve my friend James Dabney with my beloved wife sole executors of this my last will and testament. At a court held for Louisa County September 14th 1772. This will was this day provided by the oaths of John Walton junior and Thomas Jackson and by the court ordered to be recorded.
Know all men by these presents that we Mary East, William While Gentt and Thomas Peers are held and firmly bound to Thomas Johnson, Robert Anderson and C. Gent, justices of the court of Louisa County now setting in the sum of five hundred pounds to the payment whereof will and truly _ _ made to these justices and their successions we bind_ _ _ . We bind ourselves and each of us and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally from _ by these presents sealed with our seals this fourteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy two and in the twelfth year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the third.
The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound Mary East executor of the last will and testament of Joseph East deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and chattels and credits of the deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of her Mary or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for her and same so made to exhibit into the county court of Louisa at such time as she shall be there unto required by this court and the same goods and chattels and credits and all other the goods and chattels and credits of the deceased which at any time after shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of the Mary or into the hands of possession of any other person or persons for her do will and truly administer according to law and further do make a just and true account of her actions and doings therein when thereto required by the court and also shall will and truly pay and deliver all legacies contained and specified . In this testament as far as the goods chattels and credits will whereunto extend and the law shall charge then this obligation to be void and of no effect or else to remain in full force and virtue.
