  The death of William V. Dove is recorded in the 1877 Register of Death in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The informant for this death record was William Mays, friend. This record shows that the parents of William V. Dove were William and Mary Dove. In the 1860 census, William V. Dove, 60, is enumerated next door to George Dove, 79, and wife Mary. It is possible that William is the son of George and that William Mays was mistaken in the name of Williams father. Also in the 1877 Register of Death, on the line immediately preceding William V Dove, is the death record of Peggy Dove. The informant of this record was also William Mays. All records indicate that Williams wife was named Margaret so it is almost certain that Peggy Dove is the wife of William V. Dove. Most researchers believe that William married Margaret Barrett in 1824 in Pittsylvania County. However, the death register states that the parents of Peggy Dove were Thomas and Malinda Walker. Also in the 1860 census, the family following William V. Dove is John and Malinda Walker. Was William Mays also mistaken about the father of Peggy? If John and Malinda Walker have a daughter, she is not enumerated in their household. Also, given John and Malinda's age, their daughter could not be the mother of all William's children. It is possible that William V. Dove was married twice, both times to women named Margaret (Peggy). [1, 4]
