  • Notes

    • Thomas Cannon was the son of Jeremiah Cannon and Elizabth Elam. He was born between 1750 and 1760. He reportedly married Rachel Walker. There is some evidence to support this claim. The Taylor family bible names rachel as Thomas wife, bu does not give her surname. Thus, there is still a need for evidence to prove the maiden name of Thomas’ wife.

Thomas Cannon’s father Jeremiah Cannon died in 1767 while Thomas was still young. Not much is known about Thomas in the period from 1767 until 1791, when he apparently moved to the part of Greene Co. TN that later became Jefferson Co. Thomas’s sister Fanny, who married James Walker also moved to Jeferson Co. TN. On 13 Feb. 1791, Thomas Cannon was granted 100 acres of land in Greene Co., on Sinking Fork of Long Creek by the State of North Carolina. NC Land Grant # 837, Book 68, p. 76.
