Notes - Excerpts from memoirs of Armistead Fullove Ramsey, Chapter Two
'Hailey H. [sic A.] RAMSEY was born March 6, 1814 and Eliza BENNETT, his wife, was born August 22, 1816. Hailey A. RAMSEY died July 25,1901and Eliza B. BENNETT died October 16, 1898.
Hailey A. RAMSEY and Eliza B. BENNETT were married February ____1836 and they settled at the Old Red House Place. I think this is the placewhere my great Uncle William RAMSEY had lived some years before. Thisplace was in sight of the Old Stone House and also in sight of Old Sandy Level Storehouse and post office. I thing this was the first placethat my father owned. He lived at this place until 1856. Either in the year 1856 or 1857 my father bought from Crafton BENNETT the Gilchrist place on Reddis Creek near Liberty and near Reddis Gap in Smith's Mountain; and moved to this place and built a three room log house and lived in this house until either 1873 or 1874.
Hailey A. RAMSEY, my father, bought my grandfather's old place, StoneHouse, either in 1869 or 1870 and moved to this place in 1873 or 1874and lived at this place until the fall of 1886. When he moved back tothe Gilchrist place near Reddis Gap and Liberty Church and lived at this place until both mother and father died; mother in 1898 and fatherin 1901.
Eliza B. BENNETT, wife of Hailey A. RAMSEY was a daughter of Fullove and Susan BENNETT and a neice of Charles ANTHONY and Abner ANTHONY. Abner ANTHONY was a Baptist preacher and he had two sons, Baptist preachers, namely Charlie ANTHONY and Penn ANTHONY.
