[3, 4] - Vincent Vass died at the home of Spencer T. Hurt, his wife's nephew. His widow, Caty Vass, is enumerated in the home of Spencer Hurt in the 1850 census. In her application for widow's benefits, Caty Vass stated that the only living person who was present at her wedding was Elizabeth Hurt. In a statement supporting Caty Vass's application and dated 8 Feb 1851, Elizabeth Hurt stated that Vincent Vass died in the home of her son, Spencer T. Hurt on 7 Jan 1850.

In another letter in the pension file, Caty declared that she married about 1795 in Person County, North Carolina, but could not remember the exact date. A Person County marriage bond for this couple is dated 20 Jan 1798.
