- The minutes of the Coneross Baptist Church for the 18 May 1861 reads, "Took Brother Herrens gift under consideration and liberate him to exercise his gifts in the bounds of this church and anywhere called on." The nature of this gift is not stated, however, B. Herron is frequently noted in the minutes as giving an exhortation when the regular preacher was not present.

- Alfred Burton Herron enlisted in the Confederate army on 23 Aug 1861 at Walhalla, SC. He served in the Twelth Regiment South Carolina Infantry, Company K commanded by Captain L. B. Johnson. His brother-in-law, W. F. G. Brewer, also served in the same Company. Service records show that he died in a hospital in McPhersonville, SC on either the 10th or 12th of February, 1862. The service records name his widow as Caroline Herron of Pickens District.

- In September 1860 Brother B. Herren Joined Coneross Baptist Church By Letter (from what church not stated.) In November 1860 Elizabeth C. Herren Joined this Church by Letter again from where not given. There was no other mention of B. Herren but Elizabeth C. Herren was still on the Church Membership rolls in 1866. The next Church Roll given was from 1877 and Elizabeth was not listed when she came off the rolls after1866 we do not know. Coneross Church is between Walhalla and Westminster Near Coneross Creek. These are the only Herrons in the church rolls. [From a message from Don Henry]

- Alfred B. Herron died in a hospital in McPhersonville, SC on either the 10th or 12th of February, 1862. Both dates of death are given in his service records. The Confederate Roll of the dead gives his date of death as 30 Jan 1862.
