[3] - On Sunday afternoon, September 18, 1881 Solomon Ramey in the company of his two brothers, Login and Tim, and David Wauls, forced entry into the home of William Higgins. Solomon Ramey and William Higgins were both armed and fired at the same time. Solomon Ramey was shot through the head and killed almost instantly. William Higgins was shot above the hip. It appears that after this incident that William Higgins changed his name to Flowers and moved to Macon County, North Carolina

Notes - William Flowers may actually be William Higgins. He was apparently involved in a shootout with Solomon Ramey, after which he fled to North Carolina and changed his name to Flowers.
