  Tunis Cole was born about 1783 in Virginia. It is not certain from where he came. A Tunis Cole gave an oath of allegiance in Pittsylvania Co., in 1777. This could possibly be the father of Tunis Cole.  In 1819 he purchased 74 acres of land on Wolf Island Creek in Rockingham Co. This is the first known record of Tunis Cole in Rockingham Co. His wife Leah is living with him and is 50 years old. A female child named Frances Cole is living with them. Frances is beleieved to be the granddaughter of Tunis Cole, by his son A. J. Cole.  Thomas Combs 30 and Martha Combs 34 appear in the household of William Corum 27 and Francis Corum 24 next to Tunis Cole.
