      In the name of God Amen I Mary Ashmore of the Parish of Ditengen & County of Prince William widow being very sick & weak in body but of sound Mind & perfect memory thanks be to God for it and calling to mind the mortality of all flesh and knowing that it is appointed by Almighty God for all people once to die Do make & appoint this my last will and testament in manner and form following Viz: First of all I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God that Gave it me and my body to the earth to be buried in a christian like & decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned and as for my wordly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me with I bestow and dispose of in the following manner Viz:
      Item: I give and bequeath to my well beloved Grandson Francis Purnell one negro winch named Sarah and her child named Peter to him and his heirs forever only his father John Chapman Purnell to have the use of them during his natural life. Item: I give and bequeath to my well beloved son John Chapman Purnell my own riding horse. Item: I give and bequeath to my well beloved son William Ashmore two thousand Pounds of Crop Tobacco, own large looking glass and all the chiny wate belonging to my house. Item: I give and bequeath to my Dear & Well beloved Daughter Mary Cannon the now wife of Luke Cannon all my wearing cloths and one suit of mourning cloth. Item: I give and bequeath five slaves namely, Philis, Hannah, Luce, Ben and Nann and their increase to be equally divided between the children of Mary Cannon the now wife of Luke Cannon after her Decease that is to say my will and meaning is that she should have the work of them During her natural life. Item: I give and bequeath to my well beloved Grandaughter Edith Cannon the first child that the negro wench Sarah shall bring hereafter that shall live to the age of one full year my will and meaning is the first child that wench brings hereafter which I bequeath to my Grandson Francis Purnell. Item: My will and meaning is that all the rest of my Estate to be sold at a Publick Sale for money At 18 months creadit to be equally Divided amongst the children of Mary Cannon to be paid them when they come to age or at the Day of Marriage by my Executors in whose hands it is to be lodged till the time appointed for Payment. Item: I give and bequeath to my Dear and well beloved son John Chapman Purnell one negro man named Whitchaven and ten Pounds currency. Also I Make ordain constitute and appoint my well beloved sons John Chapman and William Ashmore my Executors of this my last will and Testament.       Know all Men by these Presents, that We William Ashmore, Francis Purnell, Thomas Harrison and JohnBaylis are held and firmly bound to Henry Lee, James Scott, John Baylis, and William Tebbs, Gent. Justices of the Court of Prince William County, now sitting, in the sum of five hundred pounds current money, To the Payment whereof well and truly to be made to the said Justices, and their Successors, we bind ourselves, and each of us, our and each of our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our Seals, this twenty seventh day of March in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and fifty eighth and in the XXXI Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE, the Second.
      The Condition of this Obligation is such, That if the above bound William Ashmore and Francis Purnell administrators of the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of John Chapman Purnell deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said Deceased, which have, or shall come to the Hands, Possession, or Knowledge of them the said William and Francis or into the Hands and Possession of any other Person or Persons for them and the same so made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the County Court of Prince William as such Time as they shall be thereunto required by the said Court, and the same Goods, Chattels, and Credits, and all other the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said Deceased, at the Time of their Death which at any Time after, shall come to the Hands, or Possession of the said William and Francis or into the Hands, or Possession of any other Person or Persons for them do well and truly administer according to Law: And further do make a just and true Account of his Actings and Doings therein, when thereto required by the said Court, and all the Rest and Residue of the said Goods, Chattels, and Credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administrators Account, the same being first examined and allowed by the Justices of the Court for the Time being, shall deliver and pay unto such Person or Persons respectively; as the said Justices by their Order or Judgment shall direct, pursuant to the Laws in that Case made and provided and if it shall hereafter appear, that any Last Will and Testament was made by the said Deceased, and the Executor or Executors therein named, do exhibit the same into the said Court, making Request to have it allowed and approved accordingly, if the said William and Francis being thereunto required, do render and deliver up their Letters of Administration, Approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the said Court: Then this Obligation to be void and of none Effect, or else to remain in full Force and Virtue.

I JOHN UNDERWOOD of Stafford County Planter send greeting this sixth August 1726 Know yee that I in consideration Eight thousand five hundred pounds of Tobacco in hand paid in Casks by FRANCIS PURNELL deced late of Stafford County do discharge FRANCIS PURNEL .. his heirs .. all my right in two 150 acres of land lyeing on south side of Quantico creek being part of the uppermost thousand acres included in WILLM. BOURNS pattent being one half of that land conveyed to me by deed from DANIEL MARLEY the other part being sold by me to THOMAS CHAPMAN SENIOR which is divided by a line of marked trees formerly made and agreed upon by Thomas Chapman Senior and the said Underwood included in William Bourn's pattent of two thousand acres which uppermost thousand acres begins at a marked line of trees on Quantico creek side running thro a small branch on swamp which divides this 1000 acres from 200 acres of land sold by William Bourne to RICHARD GIBSON called Amkorums Land the first of which thousand (vizt.) the said Bourne sold unto THOMAS BARTON 400 acres runing down the said creek into the woods near the little back creek and parralel with the head line the next 300 acres be-longing to MARY the Widdow and relict to WILLIAM WALTRIDGE deceased runing same course as the other till it be compleat before mentioned so the 150 acres mentioned to be sold ..

      I Joseph Chapman of Prince William County being very sick and weake of body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same do make constitute and ordain my last will and

      testament in manner and form following Viz. that is to say first I Bequeath my soul to Almighty God and next my body to this Earth to be decently Inter'd according to the discretion of my Executrix hereafter mentioned.

      Imprimis I Give Devise and Bequeath to my son Joseph Chapman my plantation whereon I live and all the tract thereunto belonging which contains one hundred and fifty acres to him and his heirs forever

      Item I likewise give devise and bequeath to my said Son Joseph one Tract of Land adjoyning to the aforesaid Tract containing one hundred and twelve acres to him and his Heirs forever

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my Son John Chapman three hundred acres of Land being the major part of that Tract out of which I have given one hundred and twelve acres to my son Joseph afor to him and his heirs forever

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my loving Daughter Mary Chapman on cow and calf the same to be a young cow with her first calf

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my loving Daughter Sarah Chapman on cow and calf the same to be a young cow with her first calf
