pp. 29-35 In Name of God Amen I ABRAHAM FARROW of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Colony of Virginia Gent being sick and weak of body but of Sound memory do make this my last Will and Testament ..
Imprimis I give my Soul to God my Body to the grave ..
Item I give all that tract of land being about 500 acres whereon my Son JOHN lives to my Dear and Loving Son JOHN FARROW and heirs.
Item I give to my son John Farrow 200 acres of a greater tract of 800 acres adjoining to the tract he lives on my will Is that the 200 acres be that part next adjoining to the tract he now lives on.
Item I give to my loving son WILLIAM FARROW & heirs all that tract he now lives on being about 350 acres & commonly known by the name of Gibsons Land.
Item I give to my loving son William Farrow & heirs 300 acres of the aforementioned tract of 800 acres which 300 acres my will and meaning is shall be adjoining next to the tract he lives on.
Item I give all that tract & Plantation of Land whereon I now live being 200 acres and lying between the branch called the Tan Branch & Bartons line together with the Grist Mill and all its appurtenances to my Loving Son ABRAHAM FARROW & the male heirs of his body lawfull Begotten and for default of such heirs then to my Son John Farrow & male heir of his Body lawfullie begotten and for Default of such heirs then to my son William Farrow and male heirs of his body .. & Default of such heirs to my right heirs at Law.
Item I give to my loving Son Abraham Farrow and heirs the remaining part of that tract of Land above men:t whereof 200 acres is Devised to my son John and his heirs & 300 acres to my Son William and heirs ..
Item I give that Plantation whereon my Son in Law JOSEPH DAVIS now lives being 200 acres and is part of a greater tract containing 400 acres & lying on Quantico Creek to my loving Daughter MARY DAVIES the Wife of the said Joseph after her Decease to ALEXANDER SCURLOCK my Loving Grandson & heirs & for default of such heirs to my loving Grand Daughter LYDIA SCURLOCK & heirs and for Default of such heirs to my heirs at Law. My will and meaning is that my said daughter Mary Davies shall without any molestation or Hinderance peacably enjoy the benefit possession & occupation of the said 200 acres for and During her naturall life & that immediately after her Decease it remains & be to the said Alexander Scurlock & heirs and for Such default to Lydia & heirs & for default of such to my heirs at Law as above expressed, and mentioned.
Item I give the remaining 200 acres of the aforsd tract whereon THOMAS CHAPMAN now lives to my loving Daughter LYDIA BARKER the now wife of LEONARD BARKER for & during her natural life & then to my Loving Son John ffarrow and heirs my will and meaning is that the said Lydia Barker shall without molestation or Hinderante have the benefit & occupation of said Land for & during the time & term of her natural life & that immediately after her Decease it shall remain & Revert to my Son John ffarrow & heirs forever.
Item I give to any two Loving Sons William ffarrow & Abram ffarrow & Heirs all that tract of Land whereon my Son Abraham ffarrow now lives to be equally divided betwixt them but my will and meaning is that my Son Abraham and his heirs may have that part of it where his Plantation now is & whereon he now lives.
Item I give to my Daughter in Law MARGARET BENNETT the now wife of WILLIAM BENNETT & to her heirs forever all that tract lying on the Branch called the tan branch on the upper side thereof beginning where the Dividing line goes over said Branch and so along the several lines as divided by RICHARD GIBSON & EDWARD MASON excluding all on the lower side of tan Branch.
Item I give 30 pounds Sterling money to be laid out by my Exers. hereafter named for one or two good young Negro slaves for the use Benefit & behoof of my Daughter ROSE FILKINS, the now wife of HENRY FILKINS for and during the term of her natural life & then to her heirs forever my will and meaning is that the said Rose ffilkins shall have the benefit and Labour & service of said Slave or Slaves for and during her natural life but that no sale shall be made of said Slaves nor accounted as any part of her said Husband's Estate so as they may be sold by her said Husband or attached or seized for his or her Debt or any other ways disposed of to the Detriment of the right heirs but that immediately after her decease the said Slave or Slaves shall pass as an estate in fee Simple to her next heir & if seized or attached for her said husbands or her own Debts or otherwise sold or disposed of by him or her or any person or persons by his or her procurement that then my Exes. or such of there as are then alive, shall take the said Slave or Slaves into their possession to save the same for next Heir of said ROSE FILKINS S further my will is that this legacie shall stand in lieu & Barr of any thing else she can expect of my Estate as a childs part or any other way whatsoever.
Item I give to my Dear and Loving wife MARGARET FARROW for and during her naturall life three slaves Boatswain, Bee & Su and immediately after her Decease Boatswain & Su to my Son ABRAM FARROW and his heirs & Bess to my Daughter LYDIA BARKER & her heirs.
Item I give to my loving Daughter MARY DAVIES the wife of JOSEPH DAVIS & her heirs forever three Slaves Roger Joan and Jean.
Item I give to my loving Daughter Lydia Barker the wife of LEONARD BARKER three Slaves Appo Judeth & Nan.
Item I give to my loving Son WILLIAM FARROW & heirs a mulatto boy named Tom and for Default such heirs then to my Son JOHN and heirs.
Item I give all my personal Estate after deduction of the 30 pounds within mentioned to he equally divided betwixt my Dear & Loving Wife Margaret ffarrow and my two loving Daughters Mary Davis & Lydia Barker excepting the Carpenters tools which I give to my Loving Son Abram ffarrow & the Shoemakers tools which I give to my loving Son William Farrow.
Item I give 2000 pounds of tobacco to ALEXANDER SCURLOCK to be lodged in the hands of my Exrs: untill he arrives to the full age of twenty & one years and then to be paid to him.
Item I give 2000 pounds of Tobacco to my Grand Daughter LYDIA SCURLOCK to be lodged in the hands of my Exrs. till she arrive to 18 years of age or on the day of her marriage & then to be paid to her.
Virga: Set: At a General Court held at the Capital April the 17th: 1731 Margaret ffarrow Widow, John ffarrow, William ffarrow & Abram ffarrow having appealed from a Judgment of Stafford County Court given the 15th of October 1730 between Joseph Davis & Leonard Barker then petitioners Now Appellees & the said Mary: John, William & Abraham then defts, now appellants .. Whereby the Court did adjudge that of two writings then and there produced to be the will of Abraham ffarrow Gent Deced the writing whereon no Exrs: is named & without Date is the Last will of the said Deced:, & making nothing appear to set aside the said Judgment is therefore affirmed & the appellants ordered to pay Costs & its further ordered that the said will be sent back to the Clerks Office of the said County of Stafford to the end that the aforesaid Margaret ffarrow may have Admen of the Estate of the said Decedent with the will annext in the Court of that County. ABRAHAM FARROW who intermarried with the relict and administratrix of EDWARD MASON deced humbly sheweth that according to a former order of this Court he having caused the Estate of Edward Mason to be appraised and having set apart some necessaries out of the Estate as usual and customary humbly prays that the same may be allowed her in the Nature of her Paraphanalia unto his wife according as the Law Enjoynes and the Court have seriously weighed and deliberately consulted of the matter doe accordingly order Therefore tis ordered that MARGARET FARROW in Qualification aforesaid shall have those necessaries allowed her for her paraphanalia Vizt, one bed and Covering one small chest and box one small case one old brass candlestick one old warming pan one pestle one old box Iron one pair of bellows one old frying pan Two dishes Two plates one old bason one old pewter pott and three trayes out of her deced husbands Estate.

189. ABRAM FARROW who married the widow and relique of Mr. EDWARD MASON late of this County deced humbly sheweth that the Will of Edward Mason being proved in this Court by Capt. GEORGE MASON in behalf of the children of Edward Mason for and concerning the land but as yet no administration of the said Estate of Edward Mason deced granted Therefore your Petrs humbly prayes Letters of administration of the said Masons Estate he being ready to give Security as the Law directs And the Court having considered the Justice and Equitablenesse thereof being as yet nee administrator granted do accordingly order Therefore tis ordered that Abraham Farrow shall have Letters of admr granted him of the Estate of Edward Mason deced he giving good security and with them to enter into bonde to perform what the Law directs Touching the said Estate.

440. GEORGE BRENT complaining sheweth that EDWARD MASON late of this County deced Stood indebted to the plt the sum of Sixteen and Eighty nine pounds of Tobacco by bill and Survey herein Court ready to be produced for which he hath brought his action against the said ABRAM FARROW as admr of the said Edward Mason Estate .. And the said Abraham Farrow in Qualification afsd came into Court and Produced the Inventory of the Estate of. Edward Mason whereby it appeared that there was due onely the sum of Seven hundred pounds of Tobacco out of the said Inventory onely that he had in his hands a bill of one thou-sand pounds of Tobacco due from ROBERT BRENT to the said Estate who did likewise in Court acknowledge it that the same was due as afsd Therefore tis ordered that George Brent shall have Judgement for the sum of seven hundred pounds of Tobacco in the hands of Abram Farrow being the balance of the Inventory of the Edward Mason Estate for the sum of nine hundred pounds of Tobacco due to the said Estate from the afsd Robert Brent.

To all Christian People .. I SAMUEL GIBSON of county Stafford, son of the deced Mr. Gibson aged 22 years or thereabouts .. this 24th day June 1701. Now know ye for sum 6000 pounds Tobo. & cask by ABRAHAM FARRAR (FARROW) of Stafford County Millwright do sell parcel of land beginning upon head of Quantico there THOMAS BARTON extending into the woods according to the course & bounds as was formerly held by my Father RICHD. GIBSON either by virtue of a deed of sale given formerly to Mr. Richd. Gibson by Mr. EDWARD MASON or any other deed whatsoever the said land coming & descending to me from my Father Richd. Gibson late of this Colony Gent. decd to him the said Abram Farrar ..

From Stafford County Deed Book 1722-1728, page 507: "Between Thomas Barton Senr. of County of Stafford, Planter, and Abraham Farrow, Senr. 400 acres more or less being upper most part of a greater tract of 2000 acres granted to Capt. John Lord by Berkeley, Governor of Virginia, situate, lying and being on Quantico Creek, then when granted in Westmoreland County but now in Stafford ____ as by patent bearing date the 27th day of Sept. 1664 may fully appear and by said John Lord conveyed and assigned over to Thos. Bourne of Stafford Co. as by the conveyance and assignment endorsed on Patent & acknowledged in Stafford County Court 30 August 1665 may likewise fully appear. The 400 acres afsd was sold and conveyed by Wm. Bourne, Sam'l Mase and Mary his wife to Thomas Barton of Stafford County afsd the father of above sd Thomas Barton grantor & lessor hereof as by a deed of sale dated the 1st July 1678 Evidently appearth which deed was acknowledged in Stafford Co Court on 10 sd month & afterwards was by the afsd Wm. Bourne as heir of the afsd Thos. Bourne quitclaimed, remised & released to the sd Thos. Barton being then in Peaceable possession therof as by a deed of Release dated 10 Oct. 1685 relation thereunto being had may more at large appear and is bounded as followeth Beginning at the said Quantico Creek side upon the land of said Farrow and hence extending into the woods by a line of marked trees S.W. 300 poles ... near upon the head of Little Creek ... to Quantico Creek (Capt. Brent survey 1681 in Presence & consent of sd Wm. Bourne, Thos. Barton afsd)

pp. 155-156 To all Christian People .. this 11th day Febry, 1702/3 Now Know ye that I THOMAS LUND of County Stafford Carpenter for sum 4000 pounds of Tobacco paid and reced of ABRAHAM FARROW of said county Millwright .. have sold all that parcel of land containing 800 acres lying in county Stafford the said 800 acres of land being formerly sold by CHRISTOPHER LUND ffather of Thomas Lund to JOHN MATHEWS his assignment on the back of the said Pattent dated 3d January 1666 but never acknowledged by means whereof the land did descend to Thomas Lund the present vender it being bounded as by the sd original Pattent granted to Christopher Lund father of the sd Thomas Lund dated the 22d October 1665 the said land being by several means conveyances sold & transferred to divers but now in possession of said Abraham Farrow and accordingly claimed by him.

PP. 225-226 To His Excellency FRANCIS NichollsON Esqr. Covr. & Lieut. Geol. in virginia The able Petition of JOSHUA DAVIS of Richmond County sheweth that your Petitioner sometime ago for a valuable consideration paid bought & purchased a certain parcel of land lying at the head of Quanticot Creek in County Stafford together also with one water grist mill and Mill House to the same belonging .. But now so it may please your Excellency that one ABRAHAM FARROW of Stafford County Millwright well knowing the same to be true but enjoying the Petitioners right & Title in & to the mill the said Abraham out of the mill at several set times did take carry & bear away 137 bushels of Indian Corn & 8 bushels of wheat and also the 27th day of Sept. last past in the Mill House with force & arms did enter and then & there made a forcible Entry & detainer and yr. Petr. from his house in manner and form eject expell & remove your Petitioner from his possession thereof doth keep & hold out to the great damage & common hurt of your Petitioner and against the form of several statutes in this behalf made & provided Your Petitioner most humbly prays your Excellency to remove the force & injury of the said offender & to reinstate & establish your Petitioner in the full possession of the house (as formerly he was wont to have) and also treble damages as is allowed by the law together also with such further other Relief in the premises as your Excellency in your abundant wisdom & goodness shall seem most meet. And your Petitioner shall ever pray

Will of WILLIAM HARWOOD. I William Harwood of parish of Overwharton in county Stafford being sick & weak in body .. give and bequeath to my son FRANCIS HARWOOD all my land that is lying and being upon Niapsco Creek with my land lying and being in the Forrest upon Niapzco run and if in case Francis Harwood should die in his minority then to fall to my Daughters ANN & JANE to be equally divided between them .. unto my Daughters Ann & Jane either of them 5000 pounds of Tobo to be paid at the day of marriage but in case one should die to fall to the other sister but in case both should die then to fall to my son ffrancis Harwood .. give & bequeath 2000 pounds of Tobo towards the Education of my son ffrancis Harwood .. unto my son Francis one warming pan one bell mettle mortar one small gold ring one iron pot one feather bed and covering belonging to it & one mare running in Cockpit point neck and one coy, yearling contrary to my mark .. give my Daughter Ann one brown heifer but the first female she brings to fall to her sister Jane & further .. one mare running in Rappahannock but the first colt she brings to fall to her sister Jane vizt. I make my son Francis Harwood my Exec. .. in case he should die then my Daughter Ann in his stead & in case she should die then my Daughter Jane to be in her stead and in case she should die to my Brother ROBT. FOSTER living in Jamaica then he fully to Enjoy all my lands and livings .. I leave my children unto my wife so long as she keeps unmarried or use them kindly until they come to the age of fourteen years .. I leave. JOHN MASON and ABRAM FARROW as trustees to look after my children & their Estates & in case they shall see my children abused then to take them and their Estate into their possession .. I leave my son ffrancis Harwood to John Mason & my daughters Ann & Jane to Abram Farrow .. this first day of September 1707.

pp. 507-514 This Indenture made 4th and 5th Aprill 1728 between THOMAS BARTON SENR. of County Stafford and ABRAM FARROW SENR. of Coty & Colony Gent. by deeds of lease & release .. for 21 thousand pounds of good sound Merchantable Tobacco hath granted 400 acres whereon now lives WILLIAM GROVES & JOHN MADDENE said 400 acres being the uppermost part of a greater tract of 2000 acres granted to Capt. JOHN LORD by Hbl. WM. BERKELEY Sometime Governor of Virginia & being on Quantico Creek on the South side thereof then when granted in Westmoreland Coty but now in Stafford Coty afsd as by Patent 27 September 1664 & by John Lord assigned over to THOS. BOWRNE of Stafford County as by Conveyance endorsed in said Patent & acknowledged in Stafford County Court the 30th August 1665 may likewise fully appear Then 400 acres was sold by WN. BOURNE, SAMLL. MASE & MARY his Wife to Thomas Barton by Deed of sale dated the 1st day of July 1678 which deed was acknowledged in Stafford Coty Court on 10th of said month and afterwards was by the afd Wm. Bowrne as heir of the afsd Thos. Bowrne quit claimed & released to Thos. Barton on 10th October 1685 and is bounded .. Beginning at Quantico Creek upon the land of sd FARROW thence extending into the woods .. to marked corner tree near the head of the Little Creek .. finally up Quanticoe Creek being surveyed for 400 acres afd by Capt. GEORGE BRENT Surveyr. of Stafford County on 20th Octr. in 1681 in the Presence & by the Consent of sd Wm. Bourne and Thos Barton ..

The condition of this obligation Whereas Thomas Bar-ton by certain pair of Indenture .. bath granted unto Abram Farrow land on South side of Quantico Creek in Stafford Coty .. if Thomas Barton well & truly perform all covenants & more especially if the Wife of said Thomas Barton shall within three months release any claim she may have then this obliges. he voyd otherwise remain .

Harrison and Abraham Farrow dec. father of above Abraham by pattent dated Dec. 6, 1708....deeds of lease and release.

At Court July 28, 1739 this release was proved oaths of wits., and Syvella Farrow wife of Abraham, she being first privately examined relinquished her right of dower in lands conveyed.

The condition of the above obligation is such that bound Abraham Farrow shall observe and keep all covenants and agreements which he ought to perform mentioned in certian deeds of lease and release between Abraham Farrow and Jno. Dagg according to true intent and meaning of deeds without any fraud then this obligation to be void otherside to stand in full force. Abram. Farrow
