Notes - Don , sorry to take so long to reply. I teach high school and it has been a looong week. I am indeed interested in any records you have that relate to the "Mary " line. I spoke with my mother-in-law Wed. She could remember Mack (also known as Cudge) being jail at the time Mary died. Why or how long, she could not recall. This was based on stories her dad had told her. Her father said Mary was buried in what is now the Great Smokies National Park, accessable only by boat, across Fontana Lake. Other members say her remains were moved to Luada Cemetary when the lake flooded the valley at the end of WWII. I have not found a grave. Mack was the son of Mary and Finney Marsengill. We have the Bastardy Bond. There is a problem with the daate and the census. The 1880 census lists Joshua as 4 and Mack as 2. Again, family tradition says Mack was the older and the bond is dated 1876. My mother-in-law says she remember Josh and that he went by Jenkins while Mack went by Herron. It was common knowledge in the family and community that Mack was Finney's son. So, I assume the census taker got the boys' names in the wrong order. Mack had two wives and 18 or so children. I have tried for years to get my m-I-L to help record all them. However, she was not overly fond of her grandfather and just gets contrary when we start. I keep trying.
Thanks again for the help you have given and I will try to reciprocate, Rick Frizzell
Ps: M-I-L said one of Mary's sisters married a Flowers from the Spartenburg area. She can remember cousins of that name coming to Alarka to visit Mack in the 1930s
