| 501 | Marriage License # 11-1458 A Tilla Combs, 12, appears in the 1870 Census of Rockingham Co., NC in the household of Robert Corum. A James Combs, 18, also appears in the same household. Tilla is listed as a domestice servant for Robert Corum, and James is listed as a farm laborer. In the 1860 Census, Thomas Combs, 30, Martha Combs, 34, Elizabeth Combs, 8, James Combs, 7, and Matilda, 4, are living in the household of William J. Corum, 27. Thomas Combs died in 1863. It seems likely that Tilla and Matilda are the same person and that the age given in the 1870 census for Tilla is incorrect. | Combs, Matilda (I902)

| 502 | Marriage to Vincent Vass is noted in Douglas Register A 1789 District Court case in Spotsylvania Co. was filed by Vincent and Elizabeth Vass agsint Rosey Keeth regarding a 1783 agreement between Elizabeth manning and Rosey Keeth. | 505 | Martha F. Scott appears in the 1850 census in the household of her father Azariah Scott. 1850 Caswell Co. North Carolina Census, Roll M432_623, p. 185. Azariah Scott died in 1858. Caswell Co. Will Book S, p. 89. 91 (inventory and sale of estate property). A 14 year old female named M. Scott is living in 1860 in the household of Hannah Cannon, whose husband Reuben Cannon also died in 1858. 1860 Caswell Co., North Carolina Census, Roll M653_891, p. 310. Interestingly, Martha Scott married Hannah Cannon’s grandson, Reubin Dill. It is not currently known if there was a blood realtionship between Hannah Cannon and Azariah Scott. Further research is needed to determine whether the M. Scott in the household of Hannah Cannon is Martha F. Scott and what, if any, her relationship is with Hannah Cannon. | Scott, Martha F. (I860)

| 508 | Martha Jane Rollings is the sister of Bettie Rollings. Bettie Rollins married William Sanders and had a son, William Presley Sanders. William Presley Sanders married Agnes V. Dove, the daughter of Martha Jane Rollins and Thomas Dove. William Presley Saunders and Virginia Dove were first cousins. Martha Jane Dove, age 72, was enumerated with William Presley and Agnes Saunders in the 1900 census. They were living in the Williamsburg District of Rockingham Co. Martha Jane's birthdate was given as December 1827. The census indicates that she was born in North Carolina and that she had four children, three of whom were still living. (1900 Census, Rockingham Co. North Carolina, E. D. 88, Vol. 57, Sheet 4, line 44) A Martha Jane Dove was living in the Williamsburg district in 1870. (1870 Census, Rockingham Co. North Carolina, pg. 409, line 27, 321/314). She was 42 years old. Sarah Dove, age 15, was living in the same household. Strangely, Agnes Dove, who would have been 10, is not listed in the household. A Thomas H. Dove was issued a marriage bond 10 June 1850 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia to marry a Martha Rowland . (See, Marion Dodson Chiarito, Marriages of Pittsylvania County virginia, 1831 - 1861, p. 48). This may or may not be the Martha Jane Rollin in our line. Martha Jane Dove is not listed in the 1910 Census Index and there is no death certificate for her. Death certificates have been maintained in NC since 1913. Therefore, it appears that Martha Jane Dove died sometime between 1900 and 1913. | Rollin, Martha Jane (I1039)

| 509 | Martha Kennon married Robert Mumford I in Henrico County 22 December 1701. He was the son of James Mumford and his wife, probably a daughter of Robert Wyatt, for whom James was estate trustee in 1685 in Charles City County. James married second Sarah Wallis, the widow of John Wallis, not long before his death. He was living in December 1689 but was dead by June 1690. In September 1690 the court ordered his estate divided between his widow, Sarah, and their children. The court bound out Robert Munford, son of James Mumford, deceased, to Richard Bland in October 1690. James was the father also of Wilmette Mumford and Edward Mumford. Robert’s 1704-patent for 50? acres in Westover Parish was originally granted James Mountfort in 1689, and on 7 March 1712/3 Robert Mumford deeded 230 acres, including 130 acres he had inherited from his father, James Mumford, to Richard Bland. Robert Mumford held 339 acres in Prince George County in 1704, to which in 1706 he added 351 acres in his own name on Moccosoneck Creek and 405 acres with John Anderson. As Robert Mumford of Prince George County, he secured a patent to 190 acres in Surry County 22 January 1717/8, and added 592 acres on Moccosoneck Creek in Prince George County 14 July 1718, 390 acres on Sappony Creek in Prince George 11 July 1719, and 150 acres on Sappony 17 August 1720. Again with John Anderson, he got 2,811 acres in Brunswick County 15 May 1722, and by himself added 480 acres on Moccosoneck and 5,960 acres on Sappony 5 September 1723. On 16 June 1727 he added 290 acres in Brunswick County and joined Richard Jones patenting 465 acres on the north side of Meherrin. On the south side of the Nottoway River in Brunswick County, Munford got 792 acres 13 October 1727. On 28 September 1732 in Prince George County he added 915 acres back on Moccosoneck and 400 acres next to Thomas Hardaway. Robert Mumford was a vestryman of Bristol Parish from as early as 1720, colonel of the Prince George militia, and county justice (1714, 1726, 1729). Robert represented Prince George County in the Virginia House of Burgesses (1720-22). A Brunswick County deed of 4 September 1754 to Edward Brodnax Walker said Robert wrote his will 20 April 1734 but the will is lost. He was dead by October 1739 when Martha, James, and Robert Munford made an executor’s bond. He probably died about 1735 when he ceased to be a vestryman. | Mumford, Robert I (I1285)

Robert Bolling of “Bolling Hall,” West Riding, York. Although many genealogists accept the tradition that Robert Bolling’s wife was Jane Rolfe, the granddaughter of John Rolfe and Pocahontas, no primary records substantiate it. John Bolling, the father, was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses (1710-14, 1718, 1723-26). John Bolling, who patented 350 acres at Arrowhattocks in 1702, paid quit rents on 831 acres in 1704. | 536 | Mason Bennett and his brother William are referenced in the tobacco tenders for Overwharton Parish in 1724. Mason was 13 at the time and William was either 10 or 11. Brothers William and Mason both patented land in Prince william Co. in 1742. A John Bennett patented land in the same year. I am certain that John is related to William and Mason but don’t know exactly how. It seems most likely that he is a younger brother of William and Mason. The 1724 tobacco tenders do not list children under 10, so that could explain why he is not mentioned. The land patented by John Bennett somehow ended up in the hands of Mason Bennett. I have deed records showing that the parcel of land patented by John Bennett was divided and later sold by Mason Bennett to two different buyers. Although John Bennett is not mentioned in these deeds, you can verify that it is the same property he patented by the land descriptions. Because Prince William is a burned county., many of the deed records are lost, so I do not know how the land passed from John Bennett to Mason Bennett. 25 March 1750. Mason Bennett grants 136 acres in Dettingin Parish, which is part of land taken up by William Bennett dec’d, to Edward Bennett. (Prince William co. Deed Book M, pp. 149-152). 26 July 1762. Francis Purnel sold slaves, livestock, and chattels to William Bennett for 48 pounds 9 shillings and 9 pence. 9 shillings 8 pence to be paid to children of Mary Bennett, wife of Mason Bennett as they become of age to be equally divided between them, except Barnaby Cannon, who already received his share. (Prince William Co. Deed Book M, pg. 264-265). 10 April 1764. Mason Bennett sold to Allen Macrae slaves, livestock, and chattels for 250 Va. currency. (Prince William Co. Deed Book Q, pp. 194-95). 7 August 1765. John Leewright grants 290 acre tract to William Carr and Thomas Chapman, which Leewright purchased from Mason Bennett and is lower part of 590 tract joining land of Swan Jones, Francis Jackson, and John Farrow on Chapawamsick. (Deed Book Q, pg. 312-316) This was part of the 590 acre tract patented by John Bennett tin 1742. 5 Nov. 1765. Mason Bennett and Mary his wife sold 350 acres of land to Allan Macrae. Land was devised by Abraham Farrow to his daughter-in-law Margaret Bennett, the then wife of William Bennett. Witnessed by William Bennett. (Deed Book Q, pg. 353-356) 4 March 1766. Anthony Buckner Kelley and Amy his wife sold 300 acre tract to Francis Jackson, being upper part of 590 acre tract joining land of Swan Jones, dec'd, Francis Jackson, and John Farrow on Chapawamsick conveyed by Mason Bennett to Buckner Kelly by Deed of Feoffment 23 June 1760. (Deed Book Q, pg. 366-368). This was part of 590 acre tract patented by John Bennett in 1742 In 1779, Mason BENNETT owned 480 acres in Prince William County. He was 19 years in arrears of paying his quit rents. [Magazine of Va. Genealogy, v. 32, Aug. 1994, p. 193] Mason BENNETT is missing from the 1782 personal property tax list for Prince William County, but a Mrs. BENNETT, with 13 slaves, 2 horses, 13 cattle is shown [Burr Harrison's district, (near Dumfries) p. 6] Could this be the widow Mary BENNETT? If so, Mason perhaps died between 1779 and 1782. No probate for him is on file in Prince William County. | Bennett, Mason (I1523)

| 537 | Mason Bennett was married in Berkeley Co., VA (now WV) on 10/17/1790 to Sarah Susan Clark. There is a will for Mason that is held in the Jefferson County courthouse dated 1814. In this will, he lists seven children. They are William, Mason, John, Bunbury/Burnbury(?), Thomas, Nancy and Catherine. Thomas was disinherited. Mason Bennett appears in the 1810 census in Jefferson Co. Va (now WV). His household comprises 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 2 males 16-25, and 1 male over 45, 2 females 10-15, 1 female 16-25, and 1 female 26 -44. A Mason and Bunbury Bennett appear in the 1850 census in Jefferson Co. They are tentatively identified as two of the sons of Mason Bennett, however, the connection is not proven. | Bennett, Mason (I1477)

| 538 | Mason Sanders appears in the 1800 census for Caswell Co., NC. His household includes 3 males under 10, 1 male 25 - 44, and 1 female 25 - 44. (Roll 31, P. 146). Taylor Sanders and Smith Sanders appear on the same page of the census. Also, John Dill is on the same page. A Wm Underwood appears on the next page. | 550 | Milky Dill is listed as head of household in the 1840 Caswell Co., NC census, p. 125. Her husband Archibald Dill died in 1838. Milcah died shortly thereafter in 1842. According to many Fisher researchers, Milcah Fisher married an unkown Dill and her sister Prudence married a David Strader. The David Strader who married Prudence had property on Hogan’s Creek in Caswell Co. Hannah Dill, the daughter of Archbiald and Milcah married a younger David Strader. Also, many of the Fishers moved to Morgan Co. MO. John H. Dill, David Dill, and Elisha Dudley also moved to Morgan Co., Mo. It appears that the Fisher and Dill families were allied. | Milcah (I874)
